Beijing Lifts Cable TV Charge by 50 Percent
Beijing has raised its monthly cable television charge by 50 percent from 12 yuan (1.5 US dollars)per household to 18 yuan (nearly 2.2 US dollars).

Beijing
has raised its monthly cable television charge by 50 percent from 12 yuan (1.5 US dollars)per household to 18 yuan (nearly 2.2 US dollars).
The move, which come into effect on July 1, involves 2.2 million household subscribers in the capital city, which have access to about 40 television channels through the cable television network owned by Gehuaone Cable TV Network Co, which has been listed on the
Shanghai
Stock Exchange.
The company said that the hike had been approved by the Beijing Prices Bureau of Beijing municipal government.
The previous monthly charge was set about 10 years ago when only 10 channels were transmitted by microwave, as against more than 40 through optic fiber cable now, the company explained.
It said families living under the official minimum living allowance in both outskirtan rural and urban areas would be exempted from the hike.
