Vietnam welcomes China's joining in the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) in Southeast Asia, said Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Phan Thuy Thanh at a press conference on Thursday.

While answering a question on Vietnam's reaction to the fact that China's National People's Congress Standing Committee ratified the motion of joining TAC on June 28, 2003, Thanh said China has been the first country outside the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to approve TAC.

The fact that many important partners outside the region are actively considering to join TAC demonstrated that the treaty is regarded as the code of conducts not only among ASEAN countries but also between ASEAN and outside ASEAN ones, making contribution to consolidating multi-faceted cooperation between the countries for the common interests of peace, stability, and development in the region and the world, stressed Thanh.
