Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe said on Saturday southern African states would reject any attempt by US President George W. Bush to interfere in Zimbabwe's affairs when he visits Africa in the coming week.

"Any dictating to us will never be heeded by any of us in this region," Mugabe told supporters at a rally in the southern province of Masvingo. His remarks were carried by state television.

If Bush "is coming to dictate to us to how we should run our countries, then we will say 'Go back. Go home Yankee," Mugabe said.

Bush starts his July 7-12 trip to Senegal, South Africa, Botswana, Uganda and Nigeria on Monday.

On Friday Bush, speaking in an interview in Washington, called on South African President Thabo Mbeki to put pressure on President Mugabe to hold fresh elections in the southern African country.

The United States and Zimbabwe's opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) rejected Mugabe's victory in the presidential election in March 2002, saying the poll was rigged and marred by violence.
