Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas and Minister of State for Security Affairs Mohammed Dahlan were invited to the Israeli Knesset (parliament) early next week, the Ha'aretz news service reported Monday.

Both Abbas and Dahlan have not yet made official response to theinvitation, said the report.

Israeli Justice Minister Yosef Lapid, also chairman of the Shinui Party, has informed Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin of the planned visit, which would be the first ever by a Palestinian leader to the Knesset.

According to the report, the two Palestinian ministers would notbe official guests of the Knesset, but rather guests of the Shinui on a private visit.

Rivlin's response was that there was nothing to prevent the Palestinian prime minister from being the guest of the Shinui, and he saw no reason not to receive him with all the appropriate honors.

However, the Knesset speaker expressed some reservations about Dahlan's participation.

Rivlin said he feels that Dahlan was involved in terror attacks in the not so distant past, nevertheless, he would not prevent the visit.
