China's Top Legislator Meets ROK President

Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC), met here Tuesday with President Roh Moo-hyun of the Republic of Korea (ROK).

Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC), met here Tuesday with President Roh Moo-hyun of the Republic of Korea (ROK).

Wu said President Roh's visit to China soon after assuming office indicated that the great importance the new ROK government attached to Sino-ROK relations.

China and the ROK have maintained good cooperation in bilateraland multilateral areas, witnessing remarkable scales of trade and investment as well as wide-ranging cooperation, he said.

Wu stressed President Roh Moo-hyun's visit to China was of great significance.

President Hu Jintao and President Roh Moo-hyun agreed on building an "all-round cooperative partnership", which accurately reflected the development of bilateral ties at present and in the future, he said.

Wu briefed the ROK guests on the NPC's legislation work, noting that China will develop a legal system with Chinese characteristics by the year 2010.

The NPC was ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with National Assembly of the ROK, learning from each other in the field of legislation and making contributions in enhancing mutual understanding and mutual trust of the people of the two countries and promoting all round development of the bilateral relations, hesaid.

Wu gave a positive appraisal of the contributions made by the ROK National Assembly to the development of bilateral relations.

Wu thanked the ROK for its assistance in fighting against the severe acute respiratory syndrome, and he wished Roh success and happiness during his visit in Beijing.

President Roh Moo-hyun said that his talks with President Hu Jintao Monday is fruitful and of far-reaching significance.

The visit to China had further convinced him that the ROK-Chinarelations will enjoy an all-round development in the new century, he noted.
