China's Top Legislator Meets Siemens Chairman

Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, met Tuesday with Chairman of Siemens Heinrich von Pierer.

Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, met Tuesday with Chairman of Siemens Heinrich von Pierer.

Wu expressed appreciation for the participation of Siemens in China's economic construction and the efforts made by Heinrich von Pierer in promoting Sino-German economic and trade relations.

He also expressed the wish that Siemens would expand and deepen its cooperation with Chinese partners, especially in the field of technological development.

Talking about the fight against epidemic of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), Wu said that the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government rallied the people and adopted scientific measures to win over this disaster through an arduous fight.

Although some industries were affected temporarily by the disease, the overall momentum of economic development remains good,and Sino-foreign economic and technological cooperation can be fully guaranteed, Wu added.

Heinrich von Pierer said that Siemens plans to expand business operations in China, with special attention to be paid to the research and development field.

He spoke highly of the outstanding and effective work of the Chinese government in fighting against SARS, saying that Siemens is ever more confident in cooperating with China.
