Ford to Celebrate His 90th Birthday

Former US president Gerald Ford is about to celebrate his 90th birthday. US President Bush is hosting a birthday dinner for Ford on Wednesday.

Former US president Gerald Ford is about to celebrate his 90th birthday.

He and his wife, Betty, 85, are packing for Washington, where President Bush is hosting a birthday dinner for Ford on Wednesday. On Monday, he will become the fourth U.S. president to reach 90 years of age, joining the ranks of John Adams, Herbert Hoover and Ronald Reagan.

Ford lives quietly in Palm Springs, Calif., and Vail, still enjoying a round of golf and keeping up with current events. He says the war with Iraq was "the right thing" to do, although he was "very disappointed" that France, Germany and others didn't join the coalition that fought it. The aftermath is proving difficult, he agrees.
