The Executive Board of swimming's world governing body The International Amateur Swimming Federation (FINA) will vote Saturday in Barcelona to decide the venues for the 2006 short-course (25-meter pool) world championships and 2007 long-course (50m pool) world championships.

All the three bidding cities for hosting the 2006 championshipsare in Asia -- Shanghai and Macao of China and Incheon of South Korea.

Shanghai, China's largest city and one of the world's largest metropolitans, is located in the Yangtze River delta in the eastern coast and Macao, now a special administrative region (SAR)of China after its hand-over in 1999, is in the Pearl River delta in south China.

The South Korean city of Incheon is 32 kilometers away from the country's capital, Seoul. With an area of 980 square kilometers and a population of 2.6 million, Incheon hosted the semi-finals of last year's World Cup Finals which the country co-hosted with Japan.

"Shanghai is the mainstay of Chinese swimming and if Shanghai wins the bid for the 2006 world championships, it's a great honor and a victory for all of us," said Li Hua, a leading official in charge of the sport, in China's State General Administration for Sports.

"Macao is also actively involved in the heated race," he added.

"I am happy that all the three bid cities for the 2006 world championships are in Asia and it's a great victory for us Asians no matter which city wins the bid," said Kim Sung Ho, executive director of the Incheon Swimming Federation.

Bidding for the 2007 long-course world championships are Melbourne, Dubai and Rio de Janeiro.

The 2005 long-course world championships are to be held in Montreal.
