Nine people connected to the US military have been quarantined in their homes in Texas, the United States, as respiratory problems similar to severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) were reported, officials said.

The six US airmen and three of their relatives, who passed through the Toronto Airport recently, reported mild to moderate respiratory problems earlier this week, said Captain David May of Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene.

However, no one has been officially diagnosed with SARS or hospitalized so far, and only one person fits the definition of a suspected SARS case. US public health officials said there is no reason for alarm.

Last week, the World Health Organization announced SARS had been contained. US federal officials lifted a SARS-related travel alert for Toronto on Tuesday.
