A total of 155 bodies were found in southern Bhola and Barisal districts, 50-70 km away from the sceneof the launch capsize three days ago in southeastern Chandpur townas hope for locating the launch is fading despite use of sonar system.

Searchers in Bhola and Barisal picked up 155 bodies on Friday and Saturday from the Meghna and Padma rivers, and the rescuers are still searching for more bodies, officials in Chandpur told reporters by phone Saturday.

Launch MV Nasreen sank near Chandpur town, 170 km southeast of Dhaka, on Tuesday midnight after it was caught in cross current atthe joining point of three rivers --Meghna, Padma and Dakatia.

The triple deck launch was carrying about 1,000 passengers, while its sanctioned capacity is 300. Some 200 passengers were able to reach to safety by themselves or rescued by people.

Bangladesh Navy used sonar equipment but failed to locate the launch. Officials in Chandpur said divers of the Inland Water Transport Authority could not go down deep enough because of the strong current.

Chief Executive of Chandpur district Abdur Rob Howladar told reporters Saturday,"It was almost impossible to locate the ferry due to bad weather."
