Fatal Traffic Accident Rate Falls in Macao

The rate of fatal traffic accidents in Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) went down by 66 percent in the first half of the year over the corresponding period of last year, announced the Security Forces here Tuesday.

The rate of fatal traffic accidents in Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) went down by 66 percent in the first half of the year over the corresponding period of last year, announced the Security Forces here Tuesday.

The bureau said that Macao recorded 5,639 traffic accidents in the first half year, and five of them caused death.

Four out of the five fatal cases involved accidents concerning pedestrians, said the bureau, which called for pedestrians to obeytraffic rules when walking across streets.

It said that over 124,700 cases of traffic violation were detected during the period, up 17 percent, which were mainly attributed to reinforced police actions to conduct selective spot checks.
