First China Agricultural Trade Fair to be Held in November

A senior Chinese official announced here Thursday that China would host an international agricultural trade fair on Nov. 11-16 in Beijing, the first one in China since the country entered the World Trade Organization (WTO).

A senior Chinese official announced here Thursday that China would host an international agricultural trade fair on Nov. 11-16 in Beijing, the first one in China since the country entered the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Chinese Agriculture Minister Du Qinglin said China aimed to strengthen the connection between the production and sales of farmproduce and further open China's agricultural market to the world by hosting the trade fair.

The world would be better informed of Chinese agricultural development and Chinese agri-enterprises would obtain more opportunities to promote their sales in the overseas market, Du said.

About 200 agriculture-related enterprises at home and abroad have been invited, according to the fair organizing committee, anda website will also be established for online trade activities.

Overseas agri-enterprises from 25 countries and the European Union had received invitations, the organizing committee said.

The fair will be held every year.

China's agricultural industry was integrating into the world market, Du said, citing the fact that China had established agricultural scientific and technological communication and cooperation with over 100 countries.
