One Killed, One Missing in Boat Accident in Central China

A speed boat sank Friday afternoon near the southern bank of the Yangtze River in Wuhan City, capitalof Hubei Province in central China, leaving one dead and one missing.

A speed boat sank Friday afternoon near the southern bank of the Yangtze River in Wuhan City, capitalof Hubei Province in central China, leaving one dead and one missing.

The boat was heading from Wuchang to Hankou with 11 passengers and three crew members aboard when the accident took place.

The boat experienced engine failure shortly after it left the dock at 5:50 p.m. on Friday and capsized shortly after, said an official with the Wuhan Ferry Company, which participates in the rescue operations.

A total of 12 people have been rescued so far.

Officials from the Wuhan city government have rushed to the site to coordinate rescue efforts. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
