Ji: HK People Bound to Overcome Temporary Difficulties

Ji Peiding, commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, said Friday that Hong Kong people, under the leadership of the Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government headed by Tung Chee Hwa, are bound to overcome the temporary difficulties and bring about a brighter future for Hong Kong.

Ji Peiding, commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, said Friday that Hong Kong people, under the leadership of the Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government headed by Tung Chee Hwa, are bound to overcome the temporary difficulties and bring about a brighter future for Hong Kong.

Ji Peiding made the remarks at a farewell reception held by the Foreign Ministry's Commissioner's Office for him.

He said he has been deeply impressed by the Hong Kong people with their fine traditions of enterprising spirit and bravely forging ahead in spite of difficulties. He called on Hong Kong people to take concerted efforts in overcoming the current difficulties.

He said, "to me, working in Hong Kong is a special experience in my diplomatic career. I feel proud of this experience because Inot only witnessed but also participated personally in the practice of 'one country, two systems'."

He said with the support of HKSAR government headed by Tung Chee Hwa and the people of all walks of life in Hong Kong, the Commissioner's Office has strived to safeguard state sovereignty and national interests, protect the legitimate rights and interests of Hong Kong people.

He hoped his successor Yang Wenchang to enjoy the same active support and assistance from HKSAR government and people from all walks of life here.

Fok Ying Tung, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Tung Chee Hwa,chief executive of HKSAR, Gao Siren, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR and other officials attended the reception.
