Reception Marks 45th Anniversary of China-Cambodia Diplomatic Ties

China and Cambodia called for more efforts to promote Sino-Cambodian traditional friendship Saturday at a reception held here to mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

China and Cambodia called for more efforts to promote Sino-Cambodian traditional friendship Saturday at a reception held here to mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

At the reception, Chinese Ambassador Ning Fukui and Cambodian foreign minister Hor Namhong spoke highly of the traditional and friendly Sino-Cambodian ties that were started by King Norodom Sihanouk and the older generations of Chinese leaders and vowed to further promote all-round development of bilateral relationship.

Ning Fukui said "since the establishment of diplomatic ties 45 years ago, bilateral relations between China and Cambodia have developed steadily and be consolidated further."

"China consistently supports Cambodia in safeguarding sovereignty, independence, peace and national reconciliation, as well as against external intervention," he said, adding that "the traditional friendly relations between the two countries have become a model for relations between states."

He believes that the new Chinese leadership will continue to attach great importance to Sino-Cambodian relations and support the development of friendly cooperation between the two countries.

Hor Namhong said "recent years have witnessed continuous exchanges of visits at high levels between our two countries which have greatly promoted the development of bilateral relations."

Hor also highly praised the achievements made by China in all aspects, and was grateful for the sincere help China extended to the country. Hor reiterated that the Cambodian government will firmly adhere to the One-China policy and will never changed it at anytime and at any circumstances.

Both sides expressed confidence about the bright prospects for bilateral, cooperative and friendly relations between China and Cambodia.

Earlier, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and Hor Namhong sent congratulatory messages to their Chinese counterparts Wen Jiabao and Li Zhaoxing.

Moreover, King Sihanouk and Princess Norodom Bupphadevi, president of the Cambodian Association for Friendship with China and the Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, also held receptions respectively on Thursday and Friday to celebrate the important day for the two countries.
