14 People Killed in Plane Crash in Kenya

Fourteen people were feared killed on Saturday when a South African-registered light plane crashed on Mount Kenya, a Kenyan police spokesman confirmed on Sunday.

Fourteen people were feared killed on Saturday when a South African-registered light plane crashed on Mount Kenya, a Kenyan police spokesman confirmed on Sunday.

The plane with 14 people on board, 12 of them American tourists, crashed on Mount Kenya, at 4:30 p.m. (1330 GMT) Saturday, he said.

The spokesman said the plane had originated in South Africa and was bound for the Samburu national park, north of Mount Kenya whenit crashed on Saturday.

Thomas Gesongori, operations chief of Kenya Wildlife Service, was quoted as saying on Sunday that human body parts were scattered across the 4,985-meter Lenana Peak when rescue workers arrived at the scene.

Mount Kenya, the second highest mount in Africa after Mount Kilimanjaro, consists of three peaks: Batian, 5,199 meters; Nelion, 5,188 meters and Point Lenana, 4,985 meters.
