The international bidding for main systems of China's new-type feeder jet ARJ21 has so far been basically completed, announced AVIC I Commercial Aircraft Co Ltd (ACAC), the developer of the jet, in Shanghai on Thursday.

ACAC will start making the first plane of this type by the end of this year, see its maiden flight in 2006, and hand over to clients for use in 2007.

According to president of ACAC Tang Xiaoping, ARJ21 planes are newly developed passenger planes aiming to reduce the international transportation costs. With a plan to make it a serial, ACAC will first develop two models of 85 and 100 seats respectively.

In line with the international practice of plane development, ACAC invited world-renowned manufacturers by way of public bidding during the stage of ARJ21 jet designing, who therefore undertake to develop corresponding parts such as power, aviation electron and fuel.

Rockwell Collins, Inc., which is responsible for developing the aviation electronic system, revealed that the company has been committed to China's aviation demand since its entry into the Chinese market in the 1980s. The company promised to apply its newest aviation electronic system to ARJ21 plane, with an eye to guaranteeing the stable operation of the communication, navigation, monitoring and other functions of the plane under all kinds of complicated conditions.

When the global aviation industry at large is faced up with a crisis, the rapid growth of the Chinese market stands out a spotlight. Tang Xiaoping predicted that ARJ21 planes would see a demand of around 500 from both markets domestic and foreign. Due to the strong advantage in price that is 10 to 15 percent lower than that of the same category, ARJ21 planes will enjoy a great market potential.
