Official spot-checks in the first half year showed that 82.8 percent of food products met government quality standard, China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) revealed Friday.

Among the 1,177 kinds of food checked, over 90 percent of tablesalt and gourmet power were up to standard. However, less than 80 percent of meat and bean products met government standard.

The spot-checks showed some foods failed because they containedbacilli above recommended safe levels, used prohibited additives, indicated no production dates or wrong production areas.

Ji Zhengkun, a senior official in charge of quality inspection at the AQSIQ, pledged the country's quality supervision departments would tighten measures to ensure food safety.

In June, the AQSIQ declared they had completed a market accession system for rice, flour, oil, soy sauce and vinegar and would continue the system with ten other foods like drinks, meat and dairy products.

The spot-checks did not include goods for export, said the AQSIQ.
