More than 800 abducted people in the Rwenzori region, western Uganda are still missing in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), reported the weekly Sunday Vision to be published on Sunday.

Coordinator of Foundation for Urban and Rural Advancement Reuben Mbauta was quoted as saying that most of them, who were abducted by the defunct Allied Democratic Front (ADF) rebels during the 1996-2001 ADF attacks, were from the districts of Kasese, Bundibugyo and Kabarole.

Mbauta made the remarks when he was speaking at a meeting held at Kasese town aiming at sharing information on the relationship between local community and the United Nations peacekeeping force using Kasese airfield for its onward logistics in the DRC.

Mbauta said during the ADF attacks, thousands of people were killed and many more displaced.

He appealed to the UN peacekeepers to help in tracing the whereabouts of the abductees believed to be trapped in the jungles of eastern DRC.

ADF was one of the rebel forces in the east African country. It operated in western part of the country bordering with the DRC and was eliminated by the government army in 2001.
