A former farmer who rose to become president of a group of Chinese enterprises has published a book on how to run a successful business.
"Liberal and Human-centered Approaches in Management" was written by Yuan Qinsheng, president of six township and private enterprises in Changshu City, east China's
Jiangsu
Province.
The book was published by China Economic Publishing House and originally written in Chinese. The English translation of Yuan's work was also included in the newly-published book.
Yuan, in his sixties and guest speaker with eight Chinese universities including
Nanjing University
, in Jiangsu Province, took over a state-owned cement factory on the brink of bankruptcy over 20 years ago.
Yuan successfully developed his factory into a business group of six township and private enterprises dealing in machine manufacturing and retailing.
He preaches "human-centered" management approaches and techniques rarely practiced in business operations in rural China, arguing up-to-date professional staff training, stronger human resources development, keeping pace with market information on supply and demand, and a sound relationship with clients are essential to business success.
The entrepreneur pays great attention to respecting his staff and facilitating the general development of employees. He even emphasizes in his book that a good manager should try to "win understanding and support of family members of workers".
Yuan published two books on the management of small and medium-sized enterprises in China in early 1990s.
According to Hu Daiguang, a respected economist and former dean of the Economics Department of the prestigious
Beijing
University,Yuan's human-centered management approaches are very effective.
