Beijing
will invite international designers to submit bids for a key project, a bioengineering and medicine industrial base.
The Beijing Daxing District government announced Monday that the six top selected plans will get 1.25 million yuan (about 150,000 US dollars) each.
The bioengineering and medicine industry is one of the four pillar high-tech industries in Beijing during the 2001-2005 period.
The medicine industrial base, to be located in Daxing industrial development zone, covers 28 square km of land and has already attracted two billion yuan (about 240 million US dollars) of investment.
Sales volume is expected to reach 10 billion yuan (about 1.25 billion US dollars) in the next five years.
The design plan will focus on developing the bioengineering andmedicine industry and improving its ability of technical innovation and industrial competition, so that it will become the country's largest bioengineering and medicine industrial base within 10 years.
An official from the Daxing District government said the appraising committee would be composed of nine renowned urban planners, architects and economists. The application work has started and the bid results will be available by Nov. 12, 2003.
