Canon Sets up Asia Marketing Center in Beijing

Japanese camera maker Canon will set up its Asia marketing center in Beijing, taking over part of the functions of its Hong Kong and Singaporean companies.

Japanese camera maker Canon will set up its Asia marketing center in Beijing, taking over part of the functions of its Hong Kong and Singaporean companies.

A spokesperson for the center said Canon also plans to establish 15 branches in China by the end of this year in a bid toclinch a bigger share of the Chinese market.

Some overseas employees with marketing departments at the Hong Kong and Singaporean companies have been transferred to the Beijing-based center, and 40 middle-ranking employees from the headquarters of Canon Inc. have also been transferred to its Beijing branch, said the spokesperson.

The spokesperson said Canon plans to expand its presence in China in order to meet business expansion, adding to its China branch, which has about 300 staff members.

The figure will be increased to about 1,000 by 2005 and sales volume in China is anticipated to be up by 300 percent, making it a dominant player in China.

Canon, which also specializes in production of copiers, printers and fax machines, entered China in the early 1980s.

It has invested a total of 700 million US dollars in China since then, establishing 16 firms across the country.

Canon has four regional marketing centers in the world with itsAsia center located previously in Singapore.
