Indonesian prosecutors on Wednesday demanded US freelance journalist William Nessen a two-month jail sentence for immigration violation in the trial held in Aceh district court.

Prosecutor Efdal Effendy said the US journalist was blamed for not reporting his house address change and for not applying for a working permit to the ministry of manpower.

Efdal said the US journalist also failed to show his travel document, the Detik.com online news service reported.

The prosecutors presented several witnesses from the foreign ministry, the immigration office and the ministry of manpower but none of them appeared in the court session.

Nessen, 46, is a New York native who had stayed along with the separatist Free Aceh Movement (GAM) since the government launched an all-out military offensive on May l9 to crush rebellion in the province.

He surrendered himself to the military on June 24 and has sinceundergone intense investigation at the Aceh police headquarters. Police officially declared him a suspect on June 25.
