Philippine Military Intelligence Chief Resigns

Philippine military intelligence chief Victor Corpus has resigned, a local television reported Wednesday.

Philippine military intelligence chief Victor Corpus has resigned, a local television reported Wednesday.

Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Wednesday acceptedthe resignation of Corpus, Chief of the ISAFP (Intelligence Service, Armed Forces of the Philippines), the ABS-CBN news channel reported.

In a July 29 letter addressed to Arroyo, Corpus said there was a need for him to step down to give peace a chance in the country,particularly in the military's officers corps.

Corpus, however, denied the charges hurled against him by mutinous junior officers that he had a hand in the bombing attackson Davao City a few months ago.

Corpus was one of the top military and police leaders charged by nearly 300 disgruntled military officers and soldiers, who staged a weekend mutiny in Makati business district in Manila, forcolluding with rebel groups and engaging in terrorism.
