Gas Field Begins Operation in South China

The Dongfang 1-1 Gas Field, China's second largest offshore gas field, began supplying gas Friday after three years of construction in south China's Hainan Province.

The Dongfang 1-1 Gas Field, China's second largest offshore gas field, began supplying gas Friday after three years of construction in south China's Hainan Province.

The gas field, the first marine natural gas field independentlydeveloped by China, sends gas to some key industrial bases in the province through 256 km of pipeline.

The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) input a total of 3.27 billion yuan (393.97 million US dollars) in the gas field.

Located in the sea 113 km from Dongfang City, the field covers 287.7 square km of gas area with 99.68 billion cubic meters of reserves.
