An ancient tomb, believed to date back 2,000 years, was discovered recently in Baidi village, in Hejin city of north China's Shanxi province.

Excavated during the renovation of a major state-level road running through the area, the tomb was thought to be built in the imperial Han Dynasty (206 B.C.- 220 A.D.), according to archeologists.

Besides a coffin chamber, the tomb had a door and a paved path leading to the chamber, making it unusual from typical Han brick-stone tombs which usually had no annexes to the coffin chamber, the archeologists said.

Among those objects unearthed were well-preserved cooking utensils made of pottery, including a kitchen range, plates and spoons, which the experts said were helpful for the research of the economy, culture and life during the Han Dynasty.

Local cultural workers were searching further, and details of the specific time of the tomb's construction and ownership could not be confirmed yet as no written records such as an epitaph have so far been found.
