Australian Delegation on Human Rights Concludes Tibetan Tour

An Australian delegation on human rights, led by Dr. Geoff Raby, Deputy Secretary of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, concluded a seven-day visit to Tibet and left on Saturday.

An Australian delegation on human rights, led by Dr. Geoff Raby, Deputy Secretary of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, concluded a seven-day visit to Tibet and left on Saturday.

The delegation visited Tibet University, the Potala Palace and the Jokhang Temple during their visit. They also held talks with leaders and Buddhists of the Tibet autonomous region, and inspected the situation of education, public health and religious freedom there.

Raby said human rights dialogue between China and Australia hasreached the mature stage, and Australia always acknowledges that Tibet is an inalienable part of Chinese territory and will never support the opposite stance.

The Australian people have a great interest in Tibetan development, he said, noting that Tibet has made great progress with the support of the central government.

The delegation is the first on human rights from the Pacific region to visit Tibet.
