Main Party of China's First Euthanasia Lawsuit Dies

As the main party of China's first euthanasia case, Wang Mingcheng, a former worker of Shaanxi No. 3 Printing & Dyeing Mill, passed away after suffering severely from lingering cancer on Aug. 3 and leaving a greatly controversial topic for us.

As the main party of China's first euthanasia case, Wang Mingcheng, a former worker of Shaanxi No. 3 Printing & Dyeing Mill, passed away after suffering severely from lingering cancer on Aug. 3 and leaving a greatly controversial topic for us.

In 1986, Mr. Wang implemented mercy killing on his mother with fatal illness and became the main party to China's first euthanasia lawsuit. He was instituted legal proceeding as a murder by the procuratorial organ and released with a verdict of not guilty by the court. Seventeen years later, suffering from the pain of his terminal stomach cancer, Wang Changming asked for the euthanasia but was refused by the hospital.

On June 7, Wang Changming gave out his voice of euthanasia via the newspaper of Huashang Morning, but the hospital refused him again because of no relating laws in this aspect. On July 30, when the reporter saw him the last time, he had nothing but skin and bones, but still tried utmost to bestir himself, saying that he is sorry that he can��t die in the way of euthanasia. At 3:30 A.M., Aug.3, Wang Mingcheng died.
