Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad (Holy War) said on Tuesday its talks with Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas were positive.
"We listened to the results of Abbas' visit to the
United States
and his talks with the Arab leaders and we agreed with him that the liberation of Palestinian prisoners announced by
Israel
isinsufficient," said Nafez Azzam, a Jihad leader, after the meeting.
"All Palestinian prisoners should be released withoutdiscriminating between one prisoner and another," Azzam said.
Mohamed Al Hindi, another Jihad leader, said it is necessary toend all "the Israeli violations of the ceasefire deal."The continuation of such violations would undermine the truceannounced in late June, Al Hindi stressed.
Abbas held separate talks on Tuesday with leaders of another radical group, the Islamic resistance movement Hamas.
Isma'eel Haneya, a senior Hamas leader told reporters after themeeting that "Israel has not shown any commitments to respecting the truce especially on the issue of releasing prisoners."
According to Israel Radio, Israel will free 339 Palestinian prisoners and security detainees on Wednesday afternoon and an additional 99 Palestinians later, a figure smaller than the expected.
