US, S.Korea, Japan to Hold Trilateral Consultations

The United States, South Korea and Japan will hold informal consultations in Washington on Wednesday and Thursday to help prepare for the six-party talks over the Korean Peninsula, a State Department spokesman said Monday.

"We are planning to hold some informal trilateral consultations here in Washington with Japan and South Korea on August 13 and 14 to help prepare for the six-party talks," State Department deputy spokesman Philip Reeker told a regular press briefing.

On the date of the six-party talks on the nuclear issue of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Reeker said, "I still don't have an exact date as we continue to coordinate and make arrangements for those talks. We certainly expect that they'll take place fairly soon, perhaps even later this month."

The six-party talks, which will involve the DPRK, South Korea, Japan, China, Russia and the United States, are expected to take place in Beijing later this month or in September.
