Provincial Official Sentenced to 11 Years for Bribery

A former provincial official in south China was sentenced to 11 years in prison and fined 100,000 yuan (12,200 US dollars) for bribery by Haikou Intermediate People's Court on Tuesday.

A former provincial official in south China was sentenced to 11 years in prison and fined 100,000 yuan (12,200 US dollars) for bribery by Haikou Intermediate People's Court on Tuesday.

Ma Zhaode, 55, was former director of the Administration for Industry and Commerce of Hainan Province.

The court found that during 1998 to 2002, Ma accepted bribes totaling 816,000 yuan, 10,000 US dollars and 20,000 Hong Kong dollars.
