New Regulation on Printing to Take Effect in China

China's Regulations on Administration of Printed Publications is to take effect on Sept. 1 this year, according to China Press and Publishing Journal.

China's Regulations on Administration of Printed Publications is to take effect on Sept. 1 this year, according to China Press and Publishing Journal.

Shi Zongyuan, director of the State Press and Publication Administration, and Zhou Yongkang, minister of Public Security, have signed an order to make public and implement the regulation, according to the Wednesday edition of the paper.

The regulation is designed to regulate China's printing sector and facilitate its development since it opened to overseas investment after China joined the World Trade Organization.

The regulation, including seven chapters and 26 articles, dealswith printing license verification, registration of printed matter,publication storage and delivery and inferior publication disposal.

China's printing industry has seen a rapid development in recent years, but still lags behind developed countries due to poor management and disorderly competition, the officials said.

The current presswork consumption per person in China is only around 35 US dollars (290.5 yuan) compared to hundreds of US dollars per capita in some developed countries.
