China Grants 10.8m Yuan to Quake-hit Inner Mongolia

A source with the Chinese Ministry of Finance said Monday that a 10.8 million yuan (1.18 millionUS dollars) relief fund has been allocated to Chifeng city in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region after it was jolted by an earthquake last Saturday.

A source with the Chinese Ministry of Finance said Monday that a 10.8 million yuan (1.18 millionUS dollars) relief fund has been allocated to Chifeng city in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region after it was jolted by an earthquake last Saturday.

Of the total fund, 10 million yuan (1.2 million US dollars) will go to earthquake victims as emergency disaster subsidies, and 800,000 yuan (about 96,400 US dollars) will be used in preventing and controlling quake-hit areas from possible epidemics, the ministry source said.

The earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hit Bairin Zuoqi League and Ar Horqin League in eastern Inner Mongolia at 6:58 p.m. on Aug. 16, claiming three lives, with more than 1,000 local residents injured so far, 54 of whom in critical condition.
