Chinese Pair Wins First-ever Gold at Beach Volleyball World Tour

Tian Jia and Wang Fei of China became the first Chinese pair to win a gold medal from the FIVB'S beach volleyball world tour, beating Cuba's T.L. Peraza and D.F. Grasset 2-0 at the final of the 150,000 US dollars Bali Open on Sunday.

Tian Jia and Wang Fei of China became the first Chinese pair to win a gold medal from the FIVB'S beach volleyball world tour, beating Cuba's T.L. Peraza and D.F. Grasset 2-0 at the final of the 150,000 US dollars Bali Open on Sunday.

The Chinese produced a near flawless display to down their Cuban opponents 21-17, 21-19, mixing a powerful service game with a strong defense to secure the 22,000 US dollars cheque.

"I think we both served very well today, and did not make many mistakes, " said the 22-year-old Wang Fei. "The Cubans served mostly to me because I am less experienced than my partner, but she managed to adjust so well that it took a lot of pressure off me. Probably this was the difference between the two sides. "

Top seeds Eva Celbova and Sona Novakova of the Czech Republic finished third after beating You Wenhui and Wang Lu of China 21-15,21-10.
