50,000 People to March for Peace in Nepal's Capital

An estimated 50,000 Nepalese people will stage a mass rally Friday in a bid to protest against the anti-government guerrillas' unilateral breach of cease-fire and call for peace in the country.

An estimated 50,000 Nepalese people will stage a mass rally Friday in a bid to protest against the anti-government guerrillas' unilateral breach of cease-fire and call for peace in the country.

School children and teachers from around 700 schools will participate in the peace march, that will pass through some of themain streets in the capital, said Umesh Shrestha, president of thePrivate and Boarding School Organization of Nepal, who is also theorganizer of the peace rally.

"Many other people belonging to 300 different organizations in Nepal are expected to join the peace march calling on the rebels to restrain from violence and resolve the differences through peace talks with the government," Shrestha said.

The organizations taking part in the rally will include the Federation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industries, the Nepal Chamber of Commerce, the Hotel Association of Nepal, the Trekking Associations of Nepal and the Mountaineering Association, he added.

The anti-government guerrillas unilaterally declared the breachof truce on Wednesday and resumed their violent activities in the country including the capital since then. The Nepali government onThursday announced to tab the guerrillas and the people directly or indirectly involved in their violence as terrorists.

The government and the guerrillas announced a cease-fire on Jan.29 this year to end the seven-year-long insurgency, which has claimed over 7,500 lives in the Himalayan kingdom. Three rounds ofpeace talks held between the two sides since April 27 ended inconclusively owing to their differences on some key issues.
