Olympic champion Tian Liang sealed the men's 10-meter platform victory on Friday at the 22nd World University Games here.

Tian, Sydney Olympic champion in the platform, came from behindto beat close rival Hu Jia, also from China, with a game-high 90.78 points in his last dive.

He took the title in 676.71 points while Hu, bronze medalist inthe men's synchronized platform in the Barcelona World Championships last month, had to settle for the silver in 674.10.

Choe Hyong Gil from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea finished third in 585.66.

Hu, using the "back 2 and 1/2 somersaults and 2 and 1/2 twists"with a difficult degree of 3.8 in the final dive, had led Tian around 10 points all the way in the competition before he scored 80.94 to leave a three-point deficiency with his strongest competitor.

The 20-year-old Hu, however, was rather satisfied with his performance in the last dive, which he failed in the world championships and cost him the victory.

"I did better this time than in the world championships becauseI had practiced hard on it in the past several weeks," said Hu. "And now I am more confident than ever to finish it well in future competitions."
