China's Top Legislator Arrives in Seoul for Visit

Wu Bangguo, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, arrived here Tuesday afternoon, kicking off his official good will visit to the Republic of Korea (ROK).

Wu Bangguo, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, arrived here Tuesday afternoon, kicking off his official good will visit to the Republic of Korea (ROK).

Wu paid the visit as guest of ROK National Assembly Speaker Park Kwan-yong.

ROK National Assembly Deputy Speaker Kim Tae-sik and other senior officials greeted Wu at the airport.

During his stay, Wu is expected to hold talks with Park. He will also meet with ROK President Roh Moo-hyun and visit Pusan andUlsan.

Wu's entourage included Gu Xiulian, vice-chairwoman of the NPCStanding Committee.

In a written speech delivered at the airport, Wu said that China and ROK are two close neighbors with long-standing friendship. He is expected to exchange views with ROK political leaders for further deepening the Sino-ROK cooperative partnershipand the maintenance of peace and stability on the Korean peninsula.He will also meet with people from all walks of life and visit certain ROK enterprises during the stay.

ROK is the second-leg of Wu's three-nation Asian tour. He has just concluded his visit to the Philippines and will visit Japan after the ROK tour.
