Philippine Senate President Meets China's Top Legislator

Philippine Senate President Franklin Drilon and his wife met with visiting Chinese National People's Congress Standing Committee Chairman Wu Bangguo and his wife Tuesday morning.

Philippine Senate President Franklin Drilon and his wife met with visiting Chinese National People's Congress Standing Committee Chairman Wu Bangguo and his wife Tuesday morning.

The Drilons bid farewell to and had a cordial talk with Wu and his wife while they had breakfast together.

Drilon congratulated Wu on his successful visit to the Philippines. Drilon said there is close connection between the Philippine and Chinese peoples and they have enjoyed a tradition of fraternity and friendship. Wu's visit shows that there are broad prospects for cooperation in various fields between the two countries, he added.

Drilon said the Philippine Senate and China's NPC, which began their friendly contacts in 1989, have coordinated their actions and supported each other in international affairs.

He also praised China for its contributions to promoting regional cooperation of Asian countries.

He expressed his belief that the Philippine Senate and China's NPC will continuously strengthen exchange and cooperation between them.

In reply, Wu said China highly appreciated Drilon's major contributions to expanding friendly relations between China and the Philippines and promoting exchange and cooperation between thePhilippine Senate and the Chinese NPC.

Wu described his visit to the Philippines as "fruitful." He said his talks with Philippine leaders have strengthened mutual trust politically, increased cooperation between the Chinese NPC and the Philippine House of Representatives and Senate, and promoted economic ties and trade between the two countries.

He said that during his visit he was deeply impressed by the friendly sentiments of the Philippine government, parliament and people for the Chinese people and by their enthusiasm for expanding China-Philippines ties.

Wu stressed that the Chinese NPC is willing to increase cooperation with the Philippine Senate in bilateral and multilateral affairs.
