On his arrival at the Lagos international airport, Qiao said in a statement that he wished his visit to Nigeria would "convey the cordial greetings and best wishes of the Chinese government and people to the Nigerian government and people."

"Both China and Nigeria have always supported and worked closely with each other in international affairs," Qiao said, "the Chinese government and people greatly value China-Nigeria traditional friendship and are ready to work together with the Nigerian government and people to bring our friendly relations and cooperation to a new high."

During his visit to Nigeria, Qiao will meet with Nigerian leaders and his counterparts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral ties and regional and international issues of mutual interest.

"I hope and believe that this visit will help enhance mutual understanding, deepen friendship, expand consensus, promote cooperation and bring about further growth of our bilateral ties,"he said.

Nigeria is the first leg of Qiao's working visit to three African countries. He will also visit Cote d' Ivoire and Madagascar before returning home.
