Chinese Vice-premier Meets US Guest

Chinese Vice-Premier and Health Minister Wu Yi met Wednesday with David Ho, director of the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center of the United States.

Chinese Vice-Premier and Health Minister Wu Yi met Wednesday with David Ho, director of the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center of the United States.

They exchanged views on cooperating in AIDS prevention and treatment.

Wu said the Chinese government attaches great importance to theprevention and control of AIDS, regarding the work as a strategic issue having much to do with social stability, economic development and national security, and has put it on the agenda ofthe governmental work.

Since 2002, the health ministry has taken a series of anti-AIDSmeasures in some key areas, providing health education, medical treatment and consultation and care and trying to set models for other areas, Wu said.

She said the Chinese government thanks the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center and the director himself for the support to China's AIDS prevention and treatment, and welcomes further cooperation between the two sides.

Ho briefed Wu on his center's programs in China, and plans for further cooperation.
