Chen Hong Wins Opener at Malaysian Open Badminton

Chinese Chen Hong brushed aside his Japanese opponent Nakanishi Yousuke in straight sets to breeze through the first-round competitions at the 120,000 US dollars Malaysian Open badminton tournament in Kota Kinabalu on Wednesday.

Chinese Chen Hong brushed aside his Japanese opponent Nakanishi Yousuke in straight sets to breeze through the first-round competitions at the 120,000 US dollars Malaysian Open badminton tournament in Kota Kinabalu on Wednesday.

The favorite Chen, a losing finalist at the Indonesian Open last week, won his opener 15-13 and 15-4, and will play his compatriot Wu Yunyong in the second round on Thursday after Wu disposed of Denmark's Bo Rafn 15-6 and 15-4.

Second seed Kenneth Jonassen of Denmark also scored an easy victory of 15-7 and 15-6 over Budi Santoso of Indonesia, and will take on Spaniard Sergio Lopis in the second round.

However, fifth seed Anders Boesen of Denmark was toppled by Malaysian Yeoh Kay Bin 14-17, 15-9 and 15-6, while another Malaysian Lee Tsuen Seng became a victim of Indonesian 18-year-oldSimon Santoso 17-15, 3-15 and 7-15.

Kay Bin, who lost the first-rounders at the Singapore and Indonesian Opens, said that "It's my fourth meeting with Boesen. Today's win puts our record at 2-2. The hot weather here might have affected him."

The Malaysian will meet Dicky Palyama of the Netherlands in the second round after Palyama beat Sam Smith of Canada 15-4, 15-6.
