Chinese Vice-president Meets Ugandan Defense Minister

Chinese Vice-President Zeng Qinghong said Wednesday that China hopes to work with Uganda to continuously promote bilateral relations to new levels.

Chinese Vice-President Zeng Qinghong said Wednesday that China hopes to work with Uganda to continuously promote bilateral relations to new levels.

Vice-President Zeng, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said during a meeting with Ugandan Minister of Defense Amama Mbabazi that China is grateful for the firm support of the Ugandan Government on the one-China policy and the human rights issue and other international issues.

Although China and Uganda are far away from each other, they have enjoyed profound, traditional friendship over the years as the two countries have had effective cooperation in many areas, Zeng noted.

Mbabazi said he personally has witnessed great changes in China on his many visits to the country. Uganda and China have had conducted good cooperation in the spheres of politics, economy and military, he added.

Meanwhile, The Ugandan minister congratulated China on its success in the battle against severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), and thanked China for its support and assistance to Uganda.
