CPPCC Chairman Meets Former Zambian President

Jia Qinglin, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee, met Wednesday with Kenneth David Kaunda, former president of Zambia.

Jia Qinglin, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee, met Wednesday with Kenneth David Kaunda, former president of Zambia.

Jia, also chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said that China-Zambia ties have enjoyed all-round development with frequent high-level contacts and fruitful cooperation in various fields since the two countries established diplomatic relations 38 years ago.

Jia cited the railway linking Tanzania and Zambia as representing the cooperation and friendship between China and Zambia.

Jia expressed appreciation for the Zambian Government's firm support to China on the Taiwan and human rights issues.

He said China is ready to work with Zambia to advance the two countries' friendly relations to a new stage.

China has always attached importance to its traditional friendship with African countries including Zambia, and it is an important part of China's foreign policy to develop friendly cooperative ties with African countries, the CPPCC chairman said, adding that China will continue to strengthen its friendly cooperation with Africa.

Jia spoke highly of Kaunda's contributions to the friendship between Zambia and China and between Africa and China at large, for which he said the Chinese people are grateful.

Kaunda, who is visiting China as guest of the CPPCC National Committee, said he noticed the great changes and achievements China had made the moment he set foot on this country.

Kaunda said he believed that Africa-China friendly relations of cooperation would further develop in the days to come.
