China to Start Olympic Soccer Qualifier against Syria

China's under-23 men's national soccer team will kick off its 2004 Athens Olympic campaign on a home-and-away format of the Asian Olympic second-round qualifiying tournament against Syria here on Wednesday and seven days later away to Damascus.

The visiting side arrived here at 5 p.m. this afternoon, with an 18-man squad and six officials, but called off the field-adapting training scheduled at 8 p.m. and declined to meet the press with an excuse of tiredness.

Both teams are due to announce their final 18-member squads forthe first-leg of the series on September 9.

Following are the squads they bring to Kunming after the final training camps:

China:
