Chinese Vice-President Meets HK Delegation

Chinese Vice-President Zeng Qinghong met Monday with a visiting delegation of the Hong Kong Progressive Alliance at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Chinese Vice-President Zeng Qinghong met Monday with a visiting delegation of the Hong Kong Progressive Alliance at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

During the meeting, Zeng praised the alliance's role in the economic, social and political affairs of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).

The alliance, which firmly supports and advocates the "one country, two systems" policy and the Basic Law, has made positive contributions to the smooth return, stable transition, prosperity and stability of Hong Kong as well as the promotion of economic and cultural exchanges between Hong Kong and the mainland areas, Zeng said.

The vice president stressed that safeguarding Hong Kong's prosperity and stability is for the welfare of Hong Kong people.

Zeng reiterated the central government's all-out confidence in the Hong Kong SAR government led by Tung Chee Hwa to govern by law, to safeguard Hong Kong's social stability and spare no means to restore Hong Kong's economy, in order to realize long-term prosperity and development.

It is in the interests of the people of Hong Kong, he stressed.

Present during the meeting was Liu Yandong, a vice chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and head of the United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
