China has fully participated in and supported the launch of Doha Development Agenda, and is willing to play a constructive role in future talks of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Chinese Ambassador to WTO Sun Zhenyu said here Saturday.

China is willing to make efforts with other members to promote the Doha Development Agenda, and play a constructive role in the negotiations, Sun said in an interview with Chinese reporters covering the WTO ministerial meeting.

He said China's participation in the process was consistent with its policy of reform and opening up and the objectives of building a well-off society in an all-round way.

Attending the WTO ministerial meeting for the first time as a full member, China had clarified its position and special concerns in the multilateral trade talks at the plenary session in the past two days, he said.

China holds that adequate attention should be paid to the interests and special concerns of developing members as well as the newly-accessed members, Sun said.

The WTO fifth ministerial meeting began in the Mexican seaside resort of Cancun on Wednesday and was due to conclude on Sunday.

The five-day meeting was planned to give a mid-term review for the ongoing round of trade liberalization talks, launched in 2001 in Doha, Qatar, and to decide whether to open negotiations on the so-called "Singapore issues" including investment, competition, transparency of government procurement and trade facilities.

"We wish the WTO Cancun conference a success and hope a balanced result will be reached," said the Chinese ambassador.
