Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin, also leader of the Party of Moldova's Communists, said Wednesday his country will learn some experience from China in economic development when meeting Luo Gan, a senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Earlier in the day, Luo, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC, also met separately Parliament President Eugenia Ostapciuk and Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev.

Voronin said that Moldova, in the process of economic and social development, is willing to get some successful experience from China's practice of its opening and reform policies, according to a press release from the Chinese delegation.

Noting that his country has met some difficulties after independence, the president expressed his appreciation at China's support to Moldova's efforts to maintain national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Voronin indicated that Moldova will make joint efforts with China to strengthen ties in all fields, enhance cooperation and mutual support on international issues to keep the sound momentum in developing Sino-Moldovan relations.

During his meeting with Voronin, Luo said China and Moldova have a profound traditional friendship and similar history made the two "good friends and good partners."

Documents, signed by the two countries when former President Jiang Zemin visited Moldova in 2001 and Voronin visited China earlier this year, have mapped out a right direction for developing bilateral relations, Luo said.

China is willing to further cement relations with Moldova on the basis of equality, mutual trust and benefit, he added.

When meeting Tarlev, Luo said that China and Moldova have maintained a stable relationship of close cooperation.

In recent years, such cooperation has been expanded into more areas as the reciprocal high-level visits increased and mutual political trust deepened, Luo said, stressing that Sino-Moldovan relations have seen a comprehensive improvement.

Tarlev told Luo that there is not a single obstacle in the development of Moldovan-Chinese relations, nor is there any problem in cooperation on international affairs between the two countries.

The progress in Moldovan-Chinese relations proves that China is"a true friend of Moldova," he said.

Tarlev stressed that his government will stick to the one-Chinapolicy and is willing to make joint efforts with China to "write anew chapter" in cooperation between the two countries in all fields.

Following their meeting, Luo and Tarlev attended a ceremony forsigning a document under which China will provide an aid of 5 million US dollars to Moldova.

During his meeting with Ostapciuk, Luo gave a high appraisal ofexchanges and cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries. He said the close links are playing an important role in bilateral relations, hoping that the role will be bigger.

Ostapciuk expressed her satisfaction with the parliamentary relations. Noting that the top priority of Moldova is to develop economy, she said the Moldovan Parliament and all the parties willenhance links with, and learn from the Chinese counterpart to helpdevelop state-to-state relations.

Luo came here from Yerevan after winding up his three-day visitto Armenia. Moldova is the last leg of his four-nation tour whichalso includes Iceland and Finland.

Moldova, with a population of 4.28 million, became independent in August 1991 and established diplomatic relationship with China in January 1992.
