400 US troops in Thailand to join military exercise

Around 400 soldiers of the US Special Force, the Marine Force and the Ranger unit arrived in Thailand to take part in the joint military exercise.

Around 400 soldiers of the US Special Force, the Marine Force and the Ranger unit arrived in Thailand to take part in the joint military exercise.

According to a source of Thai Army Thursday, these US troops arrived in the Royal Thai Army's Special Warfare Command Center (SWCC) on Sept. 16 in Lopburi province, 150 kilometers north from Bangkok, for 2 separate missions.

Approximately 200 personnel of the US Special Force and the Marine Force will involve in the second phase of annual US-Thai Joint Military Exercise, or Cobra Gold 2003, Phase II, with about 100 personnel of the Thai Special Task Force and the Thai Ranger unit from Sept. 16 to Sept. 25 at SWCC.

The US Ranger unit, with nearly 200 personnel, will involve in a separate joint training with the Thai Ranger unit between Sept. 25 and Sept. 30, aiming at training Thai forces in combat operation and counter-terrorism tactics.
