A powerful bomb exploded in
Pakistan
i city of Karachi late Friday, but caused no casualties yet, according to local media reports.
"There was a blast at Kawish Crown Plaza building and we are trying to find out if there were any casualties," a police spokesman said.
The bomb went off in a building housing foreign companies and set its top floors ablaze, police and witnesses were quoted as saying.
Karachi has been the scene of several bloody attacks mainly on Western and Christian targets in recent years, particularly after the US-led war started in
Afghanistan
.
This was the same plaza, where a bomb went off some two months ago, killing a security guard and a pedestrian.
A suspected suicide bomber driving a car killed himself, 11 French navy experts and three Pakistanis outside the Sheraton Hotel in Mya last year. In June that year a car bomb outside the US consulate killed at least 11 people and wounded 45.
No one claimed responsibility for the blast but a police official said it could be linked to a local business rivalry.
