HK chief secretary meets US Secretary of State

Hong Kong Chief Secretary for Administration Donald Tsang met with United States Secretary of State Colin Powell in Washington D.C. Saturday (September 19, Washington D.C. time), despite a hurricane that forced the Federal Government to close for the second day, a government press releasesaid Saturday.

Hong Kong Chief Secretary for Administration Donald Tsang met with United States Secretary of State Colin Powell in Washington D.C. Saturday (September 19, Washington D.C. time), despite a hurricane that forced the Federal Government to close for the second day, a government press releasesaid Saturday.

The chief secretary said the US Administration remained positive about Hong Kong and that Powell was delighted to learn about Hong Kong's rapid recovery after SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome).

Tsang said they had talks about Hong Kong's national security legislation under Basic Law Article 23 and about the "One Country, Two Systems" principle.

Tsang said they shared view that continuing international cooperation is essential in the fight against terrorism and containing any outbreak of SARS."

Tsang thanked Powell for making the effort to fly the 112 kilometers from Camp David, Maryland, in order to meet him.

The storm caused widespread flooding and trees were blown down across roads across Washington.
